We will target small privet seedlings that can be pulled up by hand. Garden/work gloves are suggested. If you have a small weed wrench (like a Puller Bear), feel free to bring it. Closed-toe sturdy shoes are recommended. Bring your own water and snack if you wish. Restroom on site.
Ligustrum sinense (Chinese privet) is a non-native invasive shrub that has been widely used in landscaping and continues to be sold in plant nurseries and big box stores. It was introduced to this country in 1852 as an ornamental. It is ranked as a severe threat invasive in NC. It chokes out native plants, forming a monoculture. It produces many seeds and also spreads by suckers creating thickets. Once established, it is very difficult to eradicate.
Hope to see you there!
