Fall Color Hike to Id Trees, shrubs, vines, flowers, and more

We will see the native plant garden at the visitor center, cross Route 276 to the Biltmore Campus Trail to see seven preserved buildings from the early 1900’s, including the schoolhouse, commissary, and ranger’s cabin, offering a glimpse into the life of the first American forestry students.

Leaders Carrie Blair and Brett Hopkins.

Carrie teaches tree identification through her Tree Lovers School. She is a member of the NCNPS, VANPS, SC, NPS, Ga Botanical Society, botanical Society of America, and Wester Carolina Botanical Club. She has led 100’s of walks since the 1990’s and teaches Transylvania Master Gardeners Winter Tree ID course, February through April.

Brett is a long-time member of the NCNPS, an avid gardener and botanizer. He has converted his lawn into a wildflower meadow which has been toured by the Society. He is very knowledge in identifying plants and using the tools, both keys, INaturalist, and FloraQuest.
