Sandhills Game Lands Field Day May 16, 2026

WHEN:

Saturday, May 16th 2026 10:00am – 2:00pm

MEET UP:

Wildlife Resource 2995 US-1, Hoffman, 28347

Join us for a fun and informative Field Day on Saturday, May 16th from 10-2 at the beautiful Sandhills Game Lands in Richmond County! This is a free, in-person event and great opportunity for landowners to learn more about conservation, wildlife management, and habitat enhancement as we discuss the benefits of prescribed fire, native plants, beneficial insects, and herpetofauna in your landscape. RAIN OR SHINE!

We will meet at the Sandhills Depot in Hoffman and caravan/carpool through Block B of the Sandhills Game Lands. Bruce Sorrie will be our guide for the day and we will make several stops to look at recently burned areas and beautiful Spring-blooming plants. We will stop and rest at a location with porta potties and lunch will not be provided, but feel free to bring snacks or a sandwich AND please we ask that you properly dispose of any trash. We will have bottled water available, but a good idea to bring your own hydration as well.

Please wear appropriate attire for being in the field, including long pants (may encounter poison oak) and close-toed shoes. Feel free to bring sunscreen and bug spray as there are likely to be biting insects.

Please plan on arriving promptly at 10:00 and we expect to be finished around 2pm. When you arrive at the given address (2995 US-1, Hoffman, 28347), you will come through a gate (2 stone walls) and drive down a gravel road. At the end of the road, you will see a second gate and kiosk. There is a gravel parking area in front of the kiosk where we will meet. We are going to be carpooling to the site(s) to minimize traffic on Game Lands and once at the sites we will have short walks into habitat. As mentioned above, it is very important you wear comfortable, appropriate clothes to hike!

This is a first come first serve event and space is limited to 30 participants, so please sign up as soon as possible. To RSVP please reply to this email with your first and last name. One email per person signing up and because this is such a limited person event it is up to you to register for yourself only.

Once the group reaches 30 participants we will begin a waitlist and notify you if a spot opens. If you find that you can no longer make it, please send a message to sandhills@wildflower.org and let us know you no longer can attend so we can notify those on the waitlist.

Finally, this is an 18+ age field trip due to liability and limited space and you will also need to sign a waiver before you begin the field trip.

We look forward to spending the day in the field with you.
