Willie Duke Bluffs Field Trip #2, Durham

Willie Duke’s Bluff is a steep bluff along the Eno River downstream of Penny’s Bend, with an unusual array of wild flowers.  Stars of the show this month are Dutchman’s Breeches (Dicentra cucullaria) as well as many other beautiful spring flowers.

The walk to the bluff is about 20 minutes (one-way) along an easy, natural-surface segment of the Mountains to Sea Trail. Near the bluff we will diverge from the MTS trail onto rougher, steeper terrain that in places will be wet and may be slippery.  So wear sturdy shoes! Hiking sticks are useful too. We’ll go slowly so don’t let this description alarm you too much.
Cap of 15 people.  Registration required. NCNPS members have priority to register.  Registration will open to non-members on March 10.
