White Pines Nature Preserve Field Trip, Chatham County
White Pines Nature Preserve is a 285-acre site owned and conserved by Triangle Land Conservancy to protect a relict population of white pines (Pinus strobus), a tree more commonly found in higher, cooler climates. We will traverse a wide range of habitats within the preserve, from ridgetop forest above steep bluffs, past thickets of mountain laurel on north facing bluffs, fern covered slopes and floodplain forests along the Deep and Rocky Rivers. Winter is a great time for tree identification and enjoyment of open views and evergreens!
Cap of 18 people. Registration required. NCNPS members have priority to register. Registration will open to non-members on January 25.
