Hemlock Bluffs Nature Preserve, Cary, NC

We’ll meet at the Stevens Nature Center courtyard in Hemlock Bluffs at 1 PM to explore the floodplain and upland forest areas.  The visitors center closes at 2 PM so you might want to come early to see their exhibits before our walk.

Our previous trips have mostly been to see spring ephemerals before the tree leaves emerge, when it’s hard to identify the huge trees in the canopy.  We hope there will still be some leaves this time and we can work on identifying the various oaks and hickories as well as the montane species at this Piedmont site, including hemlocks and galax, and enjoying the remaining fall color.
