Habitat Description: |
Swamps and bottomlands, especially the broader swamps developed in the sedimentary rocks of Triassic basins of the lower Piedmont, isolated upland sag ponds. Widely scattered over much or most of the NC Piedmont, and sparingly into the northwestern Coastal Plain. Apparently no confirmed records for the mountains. Mysteriously scarce in the state, considering its available habitats. It is rare and local, and apparently has declined considerably, perhaps to habitat loss. Seldom are more than a few individuals seen at any given site. |
