Olivia Lenahan Shares Stories of Three Flowering Plant Families(7 p.m.--welcome early to say hello )
Event Sponsor: Triad Chapter
Please join us in welcoming Olivia Lenahan to share an overview and stories of three flowering plant families—the Euphorbiaceae (spurge), Rubiaceae (coffee), and the Ericaceae (heath), highlighting our wonderful southeastern native plants. Olivia teaches botany courses at the NC Botanical Garden and is a scientific editor at NC State University in the Forest Biomaterials Department. She received her M.S. in horticultural science from Washington State University, studying crop load dynamics of sweet cherry trees. She holds a Ph.D. from Iowa State University and focused her research on the cold hardiness of Styrax americanus (American snowbell).
Attendees usually arrive a little early to chat and to check out door prizes or books often donated by our marvelously generous members. Feel free to bring a native plant to share or save it for fundraisers at the spring and fall outings, or our annual picnic in June. Funds raised support native plant research mini-grants or scholarships to attend the wonderful Cullowhee Native Plant Conference in July.
