Wildflower of the Year
The NC Botanical Garden and the Garden Club of NC are co-sponsors of the North Carolina Wildflower of the Year program. This conservation project was initiated in 1982. The project's aim is to actively promote throughout the state and region an attractive plant that is native to the southeastern United States.
Over the years literally tens of thousands of gardeners have received the seeds and read the strong conservation message in the North Carolina Wildflower of the Year brochure.

The distribution of seeds is limited to within a 12-state region of the Southeast, from the Mississippi River to the Atlantic Ocean and from the Gulf of Mexico north to Kentucky, West Virginia, Maryland and Delaware.
