We will make several stops for short, easy walks into good habitat. No more than a couple hundred yards at any stop. Folks should wear low cut hiking boots or running shoes. There will be no bugs that late in the season. Here are some of the plant species that we will see and discuss on our tour of the NC Sandhills Game Land.\nLongleaf Pine – dominant tree\nWiregrass – dominant in the herbaceous layer\nSandhill Chaffhead – red-purple heads\nMichaux’s Sumac – federally endangered low shrub\nFlat-topped Goldenrod – bright yellow heads in dense arrays\nSplitbeard Bluestem – a handsome grass\nElliott’s Indiangrass – a handsome grass\nWe should see all of these and more on our tour.”\nThis hike is for NCNPS members only. Walks will be limited in size.
