DESCRIPTION:Event: BioBlitz at Lake James State Park to Celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the NC Native Plant Society\nWhen: Saturday, September 19, 2026\nTime: 9:00 AM–1:00 PM\nLocation: Lake James State Park\nREGISTER HERE\nSpecific meeting location and directions will be provided to registered participants.\nJoin the NC Native Plant Society – Foothills Chapter for a morning of exploration and discovery at beautiful Lake James State Park!\nWe’ll begin the morning with a Lake James State Park Ranger who will share the history of the area and introduce us to the park’s ecology and natural communities.\nFollowing the ranger program, we’ll head out for our BioBlitz! Participants will explore adjacent trails and use the free iNaturalist app to photograph and document the plants, fungi, insects, birds, and other wildlife we encounter. Our observations will help create a snapshot of the biodiversity found at Lake James State Park.\nNo previous experience is necessary and all ages welcome. Whether you’re an experienced naturalist or simply interested in learning more about the natural world, everyone is welcome.\nBefore You Arrive\nPlease download the free iNaturalist app, create an account, and join the Lake James State Park BioBlitz Project before the event. Additional instructions will be provided at the event.\nWhat to Bring\nWear comfortable shoes and clothing appropriate for exploring outdoors. We also recommend bringing water, a smartphone with iNaturalist installed, insect repellent, and sun protection.\nNative Plant Prizes!Participants will also have the chance to win native plant prizes during the event!\nRefreshments Provided.\nCome explore Lake James, learn something new, meet other nature enthusiasts, and help us see just how much biodiversity we can discover in one morning!\n
