SUMMARY:The Virtues of Violets
DESCRIPTION:Join us at 6:30pm on March 5th to learn about The Virtues of Violets presented by Kathy Schlosser. Meetings are held at the KCE library in Greensboro and everyone is welcome to attend.\nWe have 129 species of violets in our country, including hybrids and introduced. Many among them are useful as pollinators, fragrance, for food and beverages, and a long history of medicinal uses. Even better, they are early spring bloomers, a sign of joy at the end of cold weather. Violets appear in literature, art, and music. They are such cheerful plants that they are easy to love, for some–others disparage them as weeds. This programs takes a look at all aspects of the violets that are native to our fields, forests, gardens and yards.\n\nI am a long time Greensboro resident with a penchant for Nature, the environment, travel, reading and writing. A 13 year member of the NC Native Plant Society (currently unactive), 35 year member of the Herb Society of America, founding member of Friends of Plant Conservation, served as Chair of the NC Plant Conservation Board. As i age, I am grateful for the strenuous hikes I can remember, and now love wandering into natural areas simply for the joy of absorbing the peace and never-ending fascination of this earth.\n
