DESCRIPTION:\nYou are invited to join us as we explore a moderate 1.7-mile in-and-out trail that descends via a switchback path into the gorge below Upper Whitewater Falls. Witness a stunning display of North Carolina Trilliums bursting into bloom, with vibrant reds and soft pinks carpeting the landscape. Take your time, soaking in the beauty and capturing photos. Walking sticks are encouraged for added stability.\nWHEN: April 14, Sunday, 11 am – 2:30 pm\nWHAT: Guided Hike, Bring-your-own Camera and Picnic Lunch\nOnce we reach the riverside, we’ll take a well-deserved break to enjoy lunch in this breathtaking setting. Be sure to pack water and a replenishing lunch to fuel you for the return hike. Plan for a leisurely 3-hour outing – you won’t want to rush this glorious display of nature!\nLet’s celebrate spring together with Trillium at the Whitewater Falls cove forest and gorge!\nPlease REGISTER at the link below so that we will know how many to expect.\nMeander among the Trillium in the Whitewater River gorge with Connie Thompson\nDIRECTIONS:\nFrom Cashiers, NC: Drive south on NC-107 for about 9.3 miles.\nShortly after crossing the state line, look for a sign for Whitewater Falls and turn left.\nContinue for 2.3 miles to the intersection with SC-130 (which becomes NC-281 upon entering North Carolina).\nJust beyond this intersection, you’ll see a sign to turn right at the entrance to Whitewater Falls.\nFrom the Sapphire post office on US 64.\nDrive south on NC-281 about 8.9 miles (14 minutes).\nTurn left toward the parking lot when you see the sign for the entrance to Whitewater Falls.\nParking and Trail:\nOnce you enter the parking lot, park immediately to your right. This will be the closest spot to the restrooms. The trailhead where we will meet at 11 am is directly behind the restrooms.\nCOST: Parking fee is $3 unless you display in your vehicle the America the Beautiful – National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands annual or lifetime pass.\n$5-$25 per attendee, for guided walks, out of respect for their time commitment and specialized knowledge, the Oconee Bell Chapter requests a sliding scale donation to be paid directly to our hike leader.\n\nRegister ( https://northcarolinanativeplantsociety.wildapricot.org/event-5678645 )\n
