DESCRIPTION: \nJoin us in the Uwharries for an Ephemeral Walk.\nWe’ll begin on Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. at Walkers Creek Trailhead ( https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/north-carolina/uwharrie-trail-via-walker-s-creek-th )\n6781 High Pine Church Rd. Asheboro, NC 37305 ( https://www.google.com/maps/place/6871+High+Pine+Church+Road,+Asheboro,+NC+27205/@35.5530484,-79.9485731,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x88537ceea6a5a7a1:0x7a35c619ea76869!8m2!3d35.5530441!4d-79.9463844 )\nPlenty of parking, no facilities here\nIt is an easy/moderate one-mile trail walk to Walkers Creek.\nWe will hike a mile of the northern section of the Uwharrie Trail over King Mountain, Little Long Mountain, Poison Fork Creek to Jumpin’ Off Rock Trailhead.\nIt features a stone waterwall  (short distance off trail) and has one easy creek crossing. Wear hiking shoes and bring a walking stick if needed.  The trail passes through recovering hardwoods cut over 50 years ago, pine plantation, and a nice laurel forest at the turn around.\nWe’ll return the same way, then head over to nearby Strieby Wood Nature Preserve ( https://goo.gl/maps/WU6NVHxYkpEfubKT6 ) for lunch and a bathroom break.\nYou can continue the walk there at your leisure.\nWe’ll have guides to help us with plant identification. Nell Allen, retired botanist from the NC Zoo, will be joining us as well!
