SUMMARY:Using iNaturalist to Learn About Native Plants, presented by Ann Walter-Fromson
DESCRIPTION:What is iNaturalist and how can we use it to learn about native plants? Ann Walter-Fromson will show us how the iNaturalist website and smart phone app work. She will demonstrate how the iNaturalist community can help with plant identification, with understanding the timing of plant life-cycle events, and where specific plants are found. We’ll also look at iNaturalist projects, which are designed to answer questions such as the diversity of organisms within an area or the spread of an invasive species, and how we can learn from other iNaturalist community members.\nYou may get the most benefit from this program if you set up a free account at www.iNaturalist.org and also download the free iNaturalist smart phone app (IOS or Android).\n\nA retired psychology professor, Ann Walter-Fromson is an active member of the Triad chapter of the NC Native Plant Society, T. Gilbert Pearson Audubon Society in Guilford County, and Piedmont Bird Club. She is a certified NC Environmental Educator, and a 2017 graduate of the Certificate in Native Plant Studies program at the NC Botanical Garden in Chapel Hill, for which she conducted an independent research study of pollinators attracted to the native plants in her yard.\nUmbrella-leaf (Diphylleia cymosa) detail of bloom.
