Sponsored by the Margaret Reid chapter

Sunday, September 28, 2008

Chapter members were treated to a tour of the NC Museum of Natural Science’s Prairie Ridge site in Raleigh.  Kim Smart and Jesse Perry showed us the “green” outdoor classroom, the developing display garden with two rain garden features, the loop through the tall grasses and the new NC Native Tree Arboretum.

Kim led us in Kumbaya

The main entrance into the display garden

This small structure has a planted roof.  It catches rainwater in recycled pickle barrels that is used on the garden.  It can also be used as a small classroom

The Conoclinium coelestinum, Mistflower, really drew the butterflies, Variegated Fritillary (Euptoieta claudia).

It was a dreamy day in the waving grass with all the insects
