Grass Pink, Calopogon pallidus

Despite its species name (pallidus means "pale"), the flowers can be deep pink to magenta. The reflexed lateral petals are a better field mark.

Sarracenia flava, Yellow Pitcherplant

Hooded Pitcherplant, Sarracenia minor

This beautiful pitcherplant is endangered in NC. It is easily identified by its "hooded" pitcher. The small white spots are translucent and apparently confuse trapped insects, who mistake the light filtering through for an exit.
