The setting of fruit on my colony of female trees has improved greatly since a friend placed bee hives very near them. The nearest colony of male trees is about 300 yards away.
The persimmon tends to grow in single sex colonies because it spreads by root. It also spreads by the hard, stoney seeds that pass through a raccoon or possum that has feasted on the fruit in the fall.
