The hike to Douglas Falls is a moderate 2.5 mile roundtrip hike. On the way back out we will stop at several sites along the forest service road and botanize. We did this hike last year in July and everyone expressed an interest to revisit the site in spring. We should be finished by 3:00. We will do two short hikes. The first will start at the visitor center. According to the Hike WNC website the hike is an easy 1.5 mile hike through a high-elevation Northern Hardwood forest to a Heath Bald, and finally into a Grassy Summit. We will return to the center for restrooms and then drive a short distance to the parking area for second hike. The second hike is a 1.4-mile roundtrip hike to the top of the 5,892-foot summit Craggy Pinnacle at Craggy Gardens. At the top is a spectacular 360-degree view of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Please wear sturdy shoes, bring raingear, plenty of water, and snacks.
